Late in the third quarter of the Bears’ game against the Panthers on Thursday night, fans went through a roller coaster of emotions.
DJ Moore was given a pass interference penalty to start the wild journey. But when referee Clete Blakeman mispronounced the penalty as being against the defence, Soldier Field supporters erupted in cheers, believing Chicago would gain by moving the ball forwards.

Blakeman quickly corrected the record, stating that Moore was the one who committed the offence. The Bears fans’ applause swiftly turned into a chorus of jeers, illustrating how rapidly opinions can change when a referee calls a play that doesn’t go in the home team’s favour.
On the play in question, Moore engaged in offensive pass interference by illegally setting up a pick on Troy Hill, a cornerback who was tucking wide receiver Trent Taylor. Taylor’s 16-yard reception and the Bears’ first down were ruled void by this penalty.
