A number of highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects will be significantly impacted by the major alterations Disney has made to its forthcoming film release schedule.
With its release date moved from May 3 to July 26, Deadpool 3 is currently the only Disney MCU movie scheduled for release in 2024. In contrast, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, which were due to premiere on July 26, 2024 and December 20, 2024, respectively, have been moved to 2025. The current timetable for Captain America: Brave New World is February 14, 2025, and for Thunderbolts, it is July 25, 2025.
Blade has been rescheduled from its original date of February 14, 2025 to November 7, 2025. Interestingly, two titles that had been scheduled to coincide with the new release dates for Thunderbolts and Blade have been pulled off the calendar. Fantastic Four is still scheduled to open on May 2, 2025, completing the slate of four MCU films that will be released in that year.
Similarly, Mufasa, Disney’s spin-off of The Lion King, has moved from mid-2024 to December 20, 2024.
Director Shawn Levy responded to questions in October on whether the strike by actors would affect Deadpool 3’s May 2024 release date by stating that work will restart after the strike is over. Additionally, actor Ryan Reynolds released the first image of Dogpool.
Concurrently, with the end of the SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike, Sony has managed to reschedule the release date of Venom 3, which was scheduled for June 2024, to November 8, 2024. While Disney and DC each have one picture scheduled for 2024, Sony is slated to produce three comic book films that year, including Madame Web (February 14, 2024) and Kraven the Hunter (August 30, 2024).
