Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson: Political Parties Courted Him for 2024 Presidential Run

Recently, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson gave details about his interactions with political parties that asked him to consider running for the US presidency. The actor, who used to wrestle for the WWE, disclosed that the outreach took place after a 2021 survey showed strong support for his candidature, with 46% of Americans indicating their agreement.

In a cameo on Trevor Noah’s podcast, “What Now?,” Johnson described the surprising development. At the end of 2022, he conveyed his appreciation for the support indicated by the survey of 30,000 American citizens, stating that he was “really moved” and “honoured” by the political parties’ attention.

Johnson said of the interactions, “It was a major issue, and it came out of the blue. One after the other, they discussed the poll and their own in-depth analysis, which demonstrated that should I ever choose that path, [I’d be a serious candidate]. That was never my intention, so it was all really weird.”

Even though Johnson acknowledged the attraction of political positions, he made it clear that politics has never been his main emphasis, saying, “As a matter of fact, there’s a lot about politics that I hate.” Known as a “political independent” and “centrist,” Johnson had previously indicated interest in running for president and supported President Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign.

In ‘Young Rock,’ a sitcom, Johnson plays his future self, reflecting on significant events in his life, and investigates a fictitious presidential campaign for 2032.

The actor had previously expressed interest in pursuing a career in politics, but he later expressed a change in attitude, citing his obligations as a father of three children. Johnson left the door open for the future, saying, “If that’s ultimately what the people would want, then of course I would consider it,” even if he is currently ruling out a presidential bid.
