The teams behind the much awaited Grand Theft Auto 6—Take-Two and Rockstar Games—have revealed that they intend to use generative AI in their upcoming works. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says players shouldn’t anticipate a decrease in game costs despite the technology’s potential cost and efficiency savings.
Zelnick discussed the use of AI in game creation during a recent earnings conference, highlighting the technology’s tremendous potential to simplify workflows.
Zelnick made it clear that any cost savings would not be passed along to players in the form of lower game charges, despite some people’s claims that AI may make game manufacturing more economical. Rather, he emphasized the company’s goal of improving innovation, creativity, and efficiency.
Zelnick acknowledged the revolutionary potential of AI, imagining a time when low-skill jobs are reduced or eliminated to free up creative minds for high-level activity. He nevertheless emphasized the continued value of human inventiveness in the field.
While some critics worry that further AI adoption will result in job losses, Zelnick insisted that the key goal is building a more inventive and efficient business. He made a suggestion that resource competition would get more intense, especially among smaller developers who might have trouble financing certain technologies.
The amount of generative AI used in GTA 6 is still unknown, but more information should become clear when the teaser is revealed in December. Stay tuned for our in-depth analysis of this eagerly awaited video game release.
