The musician Nicki Minaj, 40, shared her thoughts on her previous decisions regarding plastic surgery on Thursday’s episode of The Run-Through with Vogue podcast. Podcast presenters Chloe Malle and Chioma Nnadi asked Minaj about her feelings during a candid discussion commemorating her cover story for Vogue’s November issue.
Minaj talked on how people can regret surgically changing their appearance. “I guarantee you, if you change anything on your body and do anything surgical and all this, you’re going to — more than likely, not definitely, more than likely — look back one day and say, ‘I was fine just the way I was,'” she stated.
In retrospect, Minaj said that she had difficulty accepting who she was, especially in light of her past self-portraits. Described as “skinny” with a “flat butt” and “boobs that didn’t sit high enough,” she expressed distaste for certain parts of her look. Nonetheless, she stressed how her viewpoint has changed with time and that she now values and loves the person she was in the past.
The rapper compared the demands of her public persona in the music business to a “fish bowl” with millions of spectators, characterizing the profession as a “very scary” place. This led her to decide to shift. The arrival of her three-year-old son, known as “Papa Bear,” was a major factor in changing Minaj’s self-image.
Given how much my son reminded me of myself, I believe that pregnancy may have been a factor. The really me. I couldn’t help but wonder why I wasn’t fond of this. Minaj said, “So strange.” “But I realized that these old photos are beautiful when I saw them and had the opportunity to look at them again.”
Not only did Minaj not go into detail about her enhancements with Vogue, but she had already discussed the subject in an interview with The Joe Budden Podcast from March 2022, making it clear that she had “never had surgery” instead choosing to get “ass shots.”
