Lainey Wilson’s Night of Triumph: 5 Wins, Tearful Speech, and a Country Music Takeover!

Lainey Wilson was the star of the Country Music Association Awards, taking home an incredible five prizes, including the esteemed performer of the year award.

The 31-year-old singer from Louisiana displayed her incredible talent during the ceremony held at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night. Wilson’s excellent performance in “Bell Bottom Country” not only earned her the title of entertainer of the year, but she also won accolades for album and female vocalist of the year. Her rendition of “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” brought a fiery element to the event, evoking memories of vintage Hollywood Westerns.

Wilson said, “This is all I’ve ever wanted to do, it’s the only thing I know how to do,” as she sobbed in appreciation. “It feels like country music is starting to love me back,” she continued.

Leading the nominees with nine nods, Wilson had already won one award with HARDY for “Wait in the Truck” in the musical event of the year category prior to the start of the ABC program.

Another noteworthy night in Nashville was that of rapper-turned-singer Jelly Roll. He began the event by performing his hit song “Need a Favour” with Wynonna Judd, who was a surprise guest. He ended the evening with a duet with K. Michelle on Judd’s iconic song “Love Can Build A Bridge.” Jelly Roll won the award for best new artist in addition to his outstanding performances.

Jelly Roll quipfully said, “There is something poetic about a 39-year-old man winning new artist of the year,” in response to his victory. The importance of what lies ahead of you outweighs that of what is behind you.

Luke Combs, who won performer of the year twice before, won single of the year for his rendition of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car.” For a song she wrote in 1988, Chapman unexpectedly won song of the year.
