This distinguished accolade recognizes individuals who have made enduring contributions to cinema, showcasing their talent both in front of and behind the camera.
Known for his standout portrayal of Ken in Greta Gerwig’s film “Barbie,” Gosling has garnered significant awards attention. Festival executive director Roger Durling praised Gosling, stating, “Ryan Gosling has long been both a dramatic and comedic force in front of the camera.
This year, thanks to his universally hailed, triumphant performance as Ken in ‘Barbie’—a film that truly demanded the attention of critics and moviegoers around the world—he has become a true cinematic powerhouse.”
The two-time Oscar nominee’s recognition extends to his notable roles in “Half Nelson” and “La La Land,” earning him awards such as the Film Independent Spirit Award and the National Board Review Award. Additionally, Gosling has received nominations from prestigious organizations like BAFTA and the Screen Actors Guild.
Gosling will join the esteemed list of past recipients, including Michelle Yeoh, Martin Scorsese, Hugh Jackman, Dame Judi Dench, Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange, Forest Whitaker, Robert De Niro, Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Quentin Tarantino, Ed Harris, and John Travolta.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara on January 13, 2024, during the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The festival itself is set to run from February 7 to February 17, featuring a diverse lineup of screenings, filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and celebrity tributes.
