Unexpectedly, South Carolina senator Tim Scott, a Republican and potential presidential candidate in 2024, has announced his withdrawal from the contest. After the third Republican debate, he revealed his relationship with his girlfriend, and that was just hours before he made this decision.
“On May 22, I loved America less than I love it now. But I won’t be running for president when I return to Iowa. “I am putting my campaign on hold,” Scott declared in a Sunday exclusive interview with Fox News.
The news was made in the midst of criticism for Scott’s concealment of his connection with interior designer Mindy Noce, with whom he has reportedly been dating for “about a year or so,” according to Axios.
There were obstacles in Scott’s path to the GOP nomination from the moment he announced his candidacy in May. A week following the campaign launch, a Morning Consult poll found that more than half of GOP primary voters were unaware of Scott’s candidacy. Furthermore, only 38% of voters said they had heard flattering remarks about the politician.
